Florida Ballot Amendment #12 Fails

On November 6, 2012, 58% of Florida Voters struck down Florida Ballot Amendment #12. The Amendment sought to create a Council of State University Student Body Presidents under the management of the Board of Governors of the State University System of Florida (BOG). The purpose of the Council of State University Body Presidents would be to select the Student Governor who sits and votes on matters before the Board. Currently, the Chair of the Florida Student Association serves as the Student Governor on the BOG. Originally Founded in 1975 as the Florida Student Lobby, the Florida Student Association is a non-profit organization whose objective is to advocate for the needs and interests of the 300,000 students attending Florida’s 12 State University. The recent vote means that the Florida Student Association will remain as a dominant voice of the students of the State University System.
