Homecoming Council

Is the council that works with many organizations and departments on campus like Campus Life, Orientation & Commuter Services, Athletics and the Alumni Association. The Homecoming week consists of many exciting events such as, Panther Prowl Comedy Show, Lip Sync / Talent Show, FIU Music Fest, King and Queen Court activities, the Parade and the Panthermonium Game Day Concert and Tailgate.

Homecoming Council Position Descriptions


 

Executive Board
The Executive Board consists of three positions: Assistant Director of Administration, Assistant, Director of Finance and Assistant Director of Production. These positions require an additional time commitment and a larger amount of work than the regular council chair positions.

 

Assistant Director of Administration
The Assistant Director of Administration is responsible for managing all internal and external communications. They will also coordinate all office hours, manage the Homecoming office; and will order office supplies, council polo shirts and council nametags. They will also be in charge of facilitating any team building workshops and activities. This position is in charge of overseeing the Communications Chair, Court Affairs Chair, Public Relations Chair, Rules & Regulations Chair, and University Relations Chair.

 

Assistant Director of Finance
The Assistant Director of Finance is responsible for the management of all financial records relating to Homecoming including Sponsorship; Responsibilities for this position include: soliciting all kinds of sponsorships from companies; create and distribute sponsorship letters to companies; collect and record sponsorships from companies This position will oversee the management of budgets for each chair/event, responsible for coordinating payments for purchases and will prepare the budget for presentation to the Student Government Association. This position will also be in charge of planning and executing the Awards Ceremony for the council at the end of the year, including ordering all trophies/plaques.

 

Assistant Director of Production
The Assistant Director of Production is responsible for overseeing all events. They will be in charge of finding, pricing, and comparing production companies for all major events. They will also be responsible for ensuring that all technical riders for talent are fulfilled correctly. This position is in charge of overseeing the Game Day Chair, Parade Chair, Pride Events Chair, Lip Sync / Talent Show Chair, Logistics Chair, and Panther Prowl Chair.

 

Communications Chair
Responsibilities for this position include: taking weekly minute meetings and posting them on the HC server; managing all external communication outlets such as the council server, HC website, Facebook page, & Twitter account; controls every aspect of Homecoming publicity – from press releases to media coverage – both off and on-campus. Responsibilities for this position include: oversee the ordering of all merchandise and souvenirs for Homecoming week; work closely with the Assistant Director of Finance to ensure budget for giveaways and advertisements.

 

Court Affairs Chair
Responsibilities for this position include: plan and organize the court’s application, voting, judging, lip-sync participation and community service project; serve as liaison between council and candidates; work with Rules & Regulations Chair to ensure a smooth court regulation process; order crowns and sashes for the winners.

 

Game Day Chair
Responsibilities for this position include: plan and implement activities for alumni, faculty, staff, students, and community during pre-game time; works closely with University Relations Chair to work with Athletics, Residential Life, and other campus organizations/departments.

 

Lip Sync Chair
Responsibilities for this position include: plan and coordinate the lip sync competition as well as the talent show portion; work with the Rules and Regulations Chair to ensure all contestants are following the rules; work with the Communications Chair to publicize the event; work with the Assistant Director of Production on all aspects of production for the event and meet with organization chairs participating in the event.

 

Logistics Chair
Responsibilities for this position include: work with event chairs for decoration ideas; oversee the management of duties for each council member during events; responsible for ordering all decorations for HC events; develops schedule and duties for council and volunteers for the week of events; orders/provides all food for talent and committee works closely with the Assistant Director of Production, Ultra Chair, Lip Sync Chair, & Game Day Chair.

 

Panther Prowl Chair
Responsibilities for this position include: plan and execute the Panther Prowl Comedy Show by contacting all possible artists for the event; work with the Communications Chair to publicize the event; work with the Assistant Director of Production on all aspects of production for the event.

 

Pride Events Chair
Responsibilities for this position include: plan the 100 Days until Homecoming celebration and the kick off pep rally; work with the Communications Chair to publicize the events; work on developing new promotional events prior to Homecoming week.

 

Rules & Regulations Chair
Responsibilities for this position include: creating, reviewing, updating and enforcing all guidelines for all HC events; distribute all policies to participating groups/individuals; work with the Court Affairs Chair, Lip Sync and the Special Events Chair; Works with the University Relations Chair to recruit student organizations to participate in Homecoming.

 

Parade Chair
Responsibilities for this position include: planning and executing a University wide parade; select the Grand Marshall for the parade; and work with Communications Chair to publicize the event.

 

University Relations Chair
Responsibilities for this position include: work closely with staff and students in Residence Life, Athletics, Alumni Association, Orientation and Human Resources and other on-campus organizations; work closely with the Communications Chair to promote all events to alumni; recruits student organizations to participate in HC events; Coordinates council’s efforts at Orientation Involvement fair during the summer and oversee the Homecoming Shadow program.
